Permits for open burning shall be issued for spring and fall burning seasons. The spring burning season will be for the period between January 1st and Memorial Day. The fall burning season will be for period between Labor Day and December 31st. Applications to burn between Memorial Day and Labor Day will be considered on a case by case basis by GVFPD. Burning is permitted during daylight hours only and is recommended to be complete by late morning to lessen the effects of afternoon heat and winds on the fire intensity. Small ceremonial or recreational "camp" fires do not require a burn permit and are exempt from daylight burning requirements.

Piles of materials to be burned are to be no more than 8 ft. in diameter. Piles larger than 8 feet in diameter will require separate approval from Grand Valley Fire Protection District on a case by case basis.

No burning will be permitted during high wind conditions or when Red Flag Warnings are in effect.
There is no open burning permitted in the Battlement PUD area.

Please observe the following safety precautions:

A method to extinguish the fire shall be present during burning operations

Keep the fire a minimum of 50 feet from any structures

FIRE MUST BE ATTENDED BY A RESPONSIBLE PERSON AT ALL TIMES.
The following materials are prohibited for burning and should be disposed of by alternative methods: Rubber or plastic products, treated or laminated wood, general construction waste, chemicals, household trash or any other materials that emit hazardous or toxic smoke and fumes.

This permit does not supersede or replace other requirements, regulations, or restrictions set forth by any other local, state or federal agency. Burn permits may be denied or revoked at any time by Grand Valley Fire Protection District.
